METROAMERICA 020 - MANAGUA, NICARAGUA

I'm really excited about what God is doing in Nicaragua . From October 6 to 13 we made a trip with a team from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and from November 10-17 with a team from First Bible Baptist Church of Blue Springs, Missouri and Decatur Baptist Church from Decatur , Alabama . The results were fantastic as over 900 people made professions of faith between the 2 trips. It was great to not only have the enormous help of the 2 teams that came but also the team from our home church in San Salvador, El Salvador and also the members of New Life Baptist Church in Managua.

The results were fantastic as over 900 people made professions of faith between the 2 trips!!!

For the first time, we are seeing many of the new members desirous of sharing the Gospel with Nicaraguans. Francis is one of them. She told Fredy Benavides, a member of New Life in San Salvador , that she didn't know how to share her faith. After she accompanied Fredy and Chris from Blue Springs and saw how to do it, she won her first person to Christ. She'll never be the same.

During the October trip, although it rained and rained and affected our outdoor preaching, we had many people pray to receive to Christ door to door and in the schools. We were able to go to one public school and openly preach the Gospel in the classrooms after presenting a teaching on the importance of sexual purity. 96 junior high and high school students not only made professions of faith but also gave their names so that they could be plugged into a Bible study.

had run off with his wife. Unfortunately, he stayed the whole morning yelling and staring at the whole team.

One of our team members, Mauricio Salazar, tried to share the Gospel but to no avail. Then, while Don Laity preached and I translated, a man came running up to my face and asked me why we were killing children in Iraq . Of course, we ignored him while he ranted and raved and stormed in and out of his shop. In between 2 of the messages, I asked the owner of the shop where we were preaching why he was so mad and she told

me that it was because he was a Turco (Turk) and was a very difficult person to get along with. About 100 years ago, many Palestinian Catholics (most of them from Bethlehem ) moved to Central America and the people call them Turks. The fact that the lady told me that he was from Palestine didn't explain to me why he was so mad. One thing I knew for sure, God wanted to do something special that morning. The spiritual opposition was overwhelming. We preached 4 times and very few people made professions of faith.

During the whole time, I was praying believing that God wanted to save someone special—maybe the communist or the Palestinian. After we finished, I got a chance to share with the Palestinian when he walked up to me again to talk about the war in Iraq . He kept yelling at me even after I told

Hundreds of people came out to watch the Christian movie and the drama and hear the preaching of the Gospel in Managua

We're extremely thankful to Dr. Cowenwho brought a great team of students who were willing to evangelize in the middle of the rain.

During the November trip, the rain wasn't a problem as November begins summer (the end of the rainy season) in Central America . Once again, we found the people incredibly receptive. To give you an example, on the first evening, Randy Adams, the leader of the Blue Springs team, and Koky López led a young couple to the Lord. When the couple told Koky that they didn't want to wait until the following Sunday to start studying the Bible, Koky told them to meet them at the Marketplace the next morning. To our amazement they showed up and Randy

and Koky began discipleship. They also went to the campaigns at night. It really moved me when I saw Giovanni, the husband, holding his cell phone up in the air while we were showing the Revolutionary (a movie about the life of Jesus) the last night because he was so excited about being saved.

Although the people were very receptive, we had an interesting experience when we went to the Eastern Market, the largest marketplace in Managua . As soon as we arrived, we could sense serious opposition. The first man who came by was a communist who hated all gringos and wanted them to leave the country. When I apologized for offending him by being a gringo, he got madder and was also mad at God. I found out later that a pastor
