Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” As Marshall Eubanks, team member from FBC Calhoun, LA wisely testified, “We met a lot of people this week who were weary and burdened by sin and they had been trying to find rest for their souls in everything but Christ. Now they have found true rest for their souls in Christ.” Our goal all week was to help folks find true rest for their souls in Christ. It is with praise and gratitude to the Lord that we are able to share with you the good news that over 1,000 souls in Guatemala trusted Christ as their Lord and Savior during our August 2-9 mission trip. We want to thank Bob Griffin and his team of 16 from FBC Gulf Shores, AL, Neil Everett and his team of 12 from FBC Calhoun, LA, Dave and Allyssa Johnson from Missouri, Terrel Stewart from Woodland Park Baptist Church, Hammond, LA, John and Kay Ulrich and Mark Ferrel from Malakoff, TX and the team of 67 from Vida Nueva San Salvador for their diligence, faithfulness and outstanding preparation for this trip. In spite of many obstacles including lots of rain, denied permissions, changes in schedule and long drives they shared the gospel with joy and one after another led folks to true rest in Christ. The vast majority of the results from this week were from one-on-one encounters. Constitution Plaza, Colonia Oakland, Prados de Monte Maria, Santa Catarina Pinula, San Jose PInula, Fraijanes, and Montesorri Palo Alto were filled with the gospel! One of the most exciting and excellent things happened immediately following the evangelistic outreach Thursday evening in Zone 12 of Guatemala City. A family who had lived in that area for years approached a few of our team members. They shared with us that they were already Christians and had been praying for 2 years for Christians to come to evangelize the area and start a Bible study!!! We were the answer to their prayers. Many times God uses His people to answer prayers. We are so glad we were obedient to His call to share the gospel. Over 90 people were saved that night in that neighborhood. Guatemala is a very special country in Central America. It has experienced the greatest and most rapid growth in Christianity since 1976. Just 30 years ago statistics reported between 3 and 5% Evangelical Christians. Today some estimates are as high as 40%. Yet….society has not changed in the area of moral values. Much of this is due to the lack of knowledge and understanding in the Word of God. It is our desire that the future for these new Christians be different. The follow up has already begun. All efforts will be made to contact the new believers. They will be invited to grow in their relationship with Christ through Biblical Discipleship. Please pray for Nelson and Rosemarie and the follow up teams that will be reaching out to get these folks into the local church and grounded in the Word of God. |
