The word “Lagniappe” is a French/Cajun word used in South LA for extra portions of whatever you are talking about. It could be food, time or just anything that is added on. Please forgive me for being so late in sitting down and sending a few words for the website, but this is something that is not easy for me to do. Pam has continually asked me to write something to let everyone know how I am physically and of course mentally. Both cases seem to be working well. *smile I celebrated my birthday in July with my daughter Jill , who lives in Dallas , TX . We drove up to Oklahoma City , OK to spend the weekend. She scheduled a wonderful weekend in an area called “Brick town” and planned a luncheon for some family and friends. The get-together included cousins, nieces, nephews and a man I had known from the 10 or 11 th grade in high school. I had not seen him in all these years!! It was full of fun and I really enjoyed the weekend. Jill and I returned to Dallas on Sunday afternoon and I flew back to Hammond on Monday afternoon, the following day. I seem to keep myself very busy with my home church here in Hammond . I have returned to the early morning choir, (which is a miracle for me to be at church for 8:00 a.m.) but I enjoy being with my friends and enjoy singing for the Lord again. For so many years I could not join a Sunday school class or be involved with the choir, since Leo and I traveled so much. Now I have the time and I really enjoy being a part of things here at home. I have a wonderful Sunday school class and REALLY enjoy that. With Leo no longer here, I was interested in being with people that knew Leo and me as a couple, so they have accepted me as a single now. To be in a group to study the Bible is always a blessing for me. People say you are never too old to learn and I can attest to that fact. I am still living in Hammond , LA , just north of the New Orleans area. After Leo was gone I thought about going back to Oklahoma to be near my sister and her husband but somehow, I simply could not go. I have lived in South LA 40 years since August 16, 1968 and I always tell people I seem to have “too much mud between my toes” to live any other place. The spring, summer and early Fall, kept me busy keeping the 5 acres of grass cut but I really enjoy that. Of course there are many things I cannot do alone but my church family helps me do some of those chores that come up. I am also in the process of setting up a new time for the Discipleship Program for a young woman in our church, so that is good for me as well. So, you can see, doing all of the above and then traveling some, I keep myself pretty busy. I also have a group of women that are either divorced or widowed, so we do things together outside the church. We play lots of Mexican Dominoes; go to lunches and movies and the like. We always seem to have things to do. We are called “The Wild Bunch” by some people in our church. Somehow I cannot understand why? *smile There is a possibility of my being a part of another Judgment House Presentation in Pulaski , TN in November. I took part in our son's story in '06 and '07 in Granite Falls , NC . The folks in Pulaski have asked I consider this date but it has not been finalized. I am waiting to hear from them on this time and date. I am usually used in the Invitation area, telling about Kelly and his life before the Lord took him in 1983. The Lord has really used this story/drama to tell the importance of a young man, yielded to God to do a work through him. The Judgment House People in Clearwater , FL say that perhaps over 5,000 people have been saved through his story. Leo usually did this area, but since he is no longer here, they have asked me to come and be a part of these presentations. I am grateful to be used.
