Alejandro Rivera, Apopa Campus Youth Pastor

Alejandro was born on July 25, 1987 in San Salvador, El Salvador. He is the youngest of 3 siblings. He was born into a good home with both Father and Mother present, however they did not know the Lord. One day, a family friend invited them to a small group meeting at the ELIM church. It was there, at the age of 8, that Alejandro learned in a children’s class that he needed to know Jesus personally to be able to go to heaven. So that very night, he trusted Jesus as his Savior and Lord. One year later, in 1996, a close family friend and neighbor, Guillermo Hernandez (current Metro America 0 20 Level 2 Missions Director for Vida Nueva), invited his family to come to Vida Nueva. They accepted that invitation and ever since then, Alejandro has been a member of Vida Nueva.
Alejandro’s youth years were not that easy for him. Even though his whole family had come to know Christ and were members at Vida Nueva, his parent’s relationship was not good. Soon his parents were separated. This was a very hard time for Alejandro yet also a very good learning opportunity. He decided that he was going to be different, that he was not going to make the same mistakes he had seen his parents make. Living within a divided family made it very hard for Alejandro to find the direction that God wanted for his life.
Alejandro literally grew up in church and participated in all the spiritual structures. First was Sunday School, then came all the levels of the Youth department. He also received Discipleship, and yet still he did not have a clear direction for his life.
Then, in 2007, Alejandro went on his very first mission trip to Managua Nicaragua. From that moment forward, the Lord gave him the desire to go on more mission trips. David Guadron, Vida Nueva’s youth pastor at the time (Current Vida Nueva Bogota Senior Pastor), was key in Alejandro’s spiritual growth and spiritual orientation. In 2009, Alejandro met Wendy, who shared his heart for missions. She would become his wife 6 years later. In 2011, the Lord placed a call to missions in Alejandro’s heart. He spoke with the pastors about this call and since then has been in the process of growth and preparation.
With God’s call to serve Him full time, Alejandro sought a spiritual growth process through Vida Nueva. God incredibly moved the pieces into place and since March 1, 2015, Alejandro has been working full time on staff at Vida Nueva. 2015 was also marked by his marriage to Wendy in December.
Together, Alejandro and Wendy serve the Lord in the Youth ministry to the Apopa Campus. Alejandro is currently their Youth Pastor. They also serve in Children’s ministries through AWANAS, disciple new believers, Alejandro is an active deacon, and they can both be found serving the Lord anywhere there is an opportunity. Their heart is to one day be sent out as missionaries. They are committed to waiting on the Lord and His timing. They are looking forward to knowing where God will send them and in the meantime, they will serve their Savior and Lord with all their hearts and strength right where they are.
