MISSIONS TRIPS

RESULTS AND PICTURES FROM PAST TRIPS

Managua Nicaragua,

November 8-15, 2008

Many thanks to the eleven team members from Decatur Baptist Church in Decatur, AL, Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, CA and John Ulrich from Malakoff, TX. You all did a great job and were such a blessing to the expansion of God's Kingdom and the transformation of lives. On Saturday November 8 th , a team of sixteen from El Salvador joined them to have a week of evangelism and be a huge help to Iglesia Bautista Vida Nueva Managua.  Sunday was kicked off by a joint worship service at the hotel Estrella where we celebrated the baptism of 8 people. What a tremendous blessing as two whole families followed the Lord in baptism.

Government elections on Sunday put a bit of a damper on things, the ambient was uncertain and we were advised to not hold any outdoor campaigns that day. So we took advantage of the time and went up to an outlook that overlooks not only Lake Managua but also the entire city of Managua. We took some time to pray over the city and for the outreaches we would do during the week. We also had some opportunities to do some one on one sharing of the gospel. Although there were protests in and around the city we were blessed to never find ourselves in the middle of any protest. And in spite of the tension the Nicaraguans were very receptive to us being in their neighborhoods and schools all that week.

We began most days by going to the market to evangelize and then in the afternoons we went to schools to share the gospel through "Values Lessons". The value of the week was "self control".  We had an excellent response in the schools as many students prayed to receive Christ. Some teachers also prayed to receive Christ along with their students.

In the evenings we went to different neighborhoods all around the city with the jump house and invited those living near by to come to the evangelistic movie.  We always took advantage of those one on one encounters to share the gospel with folks. Two of the nights we showed the film "The Burning Hell."  One little boy came up to Jeff Rhoades and asked him if Satan really existed?  Jeff told him, "yes." and he ran off to tell all his family that Satan was real! I sure hope they got saved that night!

Even though we were a small group the Lord really blessed us with opportunities.  Everyone worked really hard to share the gospel with everyone they came in contact with.  The translators did an excellent job of being available for every encounter.

On Monday night Paula Rhoades was translating for Margaret Marble and they met two young men around 24 years old.  They shared the gospel but they just weren't ready to receive Christ.  Since they spoke really good English, Paula shared with them that by not making a decision...in reality were deciding they wanted to go to hell.  One of them was shocked.  She had a really good talk with them and invited them to the movie.  She was so surprised when they showed up!!  She asked Rodrigo Diaz to talk with them after the preaching because he is a young guy about their age.  One prayed to receive Christ and the other man just couldn't do it.  Once again Paula talked with them and had a great talk about why the one was holding back and she challenged them both to attend the church for 3 weeks in a row and see if God would do a work in his heart.  Well, after everyone was loading up on the bus those two kept sticking around and Don Laity saw them and went up to talk with them as well (since they spoke English) and finally the second man prayed to receive Christ.  These two young men are saved and it was such a blessing to the whole group because it was definitely a group effort. Encounters like this happened all through the week.

By the end of the week we had seen over 590 pray to receive Christ.  It was clearly a team effort. Not only were many lives transformed but many new friends were made among the group. Thank you again for spending a week with us on the Managua Nicaragua mission field. May God bless you!
