Rene Claros, Oscicala

image001René Antonio Claros was born on November 22, 1961 in San Miguel into a family that was dedicated to serve Christ. At the age of 15, he received Christ as his personal Savior. He began serving in the Sunday School and later on, became a youth pastor at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in San Miguel. He studied in the Eastern Baptist Bible Institute.

In 1992, God called him to begin his ministry as a pastor. God called him as a missionary to San Francisco Gotera in the eastern part of El Salvador, to help Pastor Omar Claros Martinez. At that time he left behind his job as a serviceman for biomedical equipment at the San Juan de Dios Hospital in San Miguel. The Good News Baptist Church was founded in San Francisco Gotera in 1992 with the vision of establishing a Missionary Center for the department of Morazán and then to the whole world.

In 1997, Rene and Elda Mahli Sorto, who was born in Perquin, Morazán, were married. Elda had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 16 in Good News Baptist Church, and has also served as a Sunday school teacher. The Lord has blessed them with two sons, Isai Josue (1999) and Melqui Samuel (2003)

In 1999, Rene was ordained as a pastor and sent out as a missionary to the city of Cacaopera where he served with his family for 15 years. During that time they built a church building, leaders were trained, many were discipled, and Sunday school teachers were raised up.

Since 2012, Rene has been pastoring the church in Osicala, alongside Pastor Alvin Parada. Both pastors recognize the importance of having their families serve alongside them in the ministry.

A Little bit about the Church in Oscicala

Good News Baptist Mission in Osicala was founded on August 3, 2012, with the vision and mission of evangelizing, discipling, and training up leaders to work in the Lord’s fields. Their vision is also to establish churches in Oscicala with sound doctrine and strong leaders willing to serve the Lord.

A Little data from 2013:

405 people heard the gospel during 2013 through all the many different evangelistic activities carried out in the greater Oscicala area.

  • 40 people have been added to the church
  • 6 people have been baptized
  • 10 people have received the course of discipleship
  • The current membership of the Church is 36 members. They are distributed as follows: 13 adults, 13 youth, and 10 children.
  • The Church offers the following ministries:

o   Evangelism, led by René Claros

o   Discipleship, led by Alvin Parada

o   Children’s Ministries, led by Verónica Parada

The greatest difficulty that the Oscicala church experiences is that of not having their own and permanent place to meet. They currently meet at the Pastor’s home. The reason for this is that property in Oscicala is very expensive to purchase or rent and owners typically will only rent for a short period of time.

You can help by praying for the Good News Baptist Mission in Oscicala. Ask the Lord to give them their own place to meet, a place where they can have church. Please ask the Lord to provide an ideal place as well as the funds that would be necessary to build and sustain that place. If you would like to help by donating financial resources towards the rental of a place or by time dedicated to the work of the mission, please contact Good News in Action for more information.
