Finally the time arrived for us to meet  for our very first MetroAmerica020 trip to Costa Rica.  Pastor Rodolfo along with his wife, Rocio, was anxiously waiting for us to arrive to begin the evangelism campaign that would kick-off the beginning of Vida Nueva San Jose. 

The Salvadoran team left San Salvador on Friday morning Jan. 8th.  Loaded up in four vans, the 30 plus team headed out for a two day trip across Central America that would include moving one family, Edwin and Veronica, to Costa Rica and three border crossings. 

Lately, the border crossings have been very difficult with no exception this trip.  Each border cost valuable time as they checked every passport, luggage and permission slip.  This was the first experience for the Costa Rica border and by far one of the most memorable.  Day two of the trip brought them to the Costa Rica border, and after waiting for six hours the team was finally given permission to enter and make the trek to San Jose.  

About five hours outside San Jose, one of our vans was involved in an accident.  Praise the Lord NO One was hurt!!  Although the team was shook up and the van severely damaged they piled into the three remaining vans and finally made it to San Jose around 2am, Sunday.  In the meantime, a team of 34 North Americans flew into San Jose.

We knew Satan didn’t want this trip to happen and he threw many obstacles at us, but we got up on Sunday morning, tired and weary, and began an amazing week.   A church needed to be planted and hope brought to San Jose. 

Each day we went into the neighborhoods close to where Rodolfo wants to start the church knocking on doors, sharing the gospel and inviting the families to join us in the evening to watch a movie.  The next obstacle we faced each evening was the cold front that pushed through dropping temperatures and bringing rain.  With this climate, not many wanted to leave the comfort of their homes, so we really had to make the most of door to door evangelism. 

It was so great to see how God gave each of us divine moments to share the gospel or encourage those previously saved to get back into church.  One day a young lady, who happened to be at the bank saw us praying with another lady and came over crying, asking us to pray with her.  She had been out of church for three years and God used us to bring her back to Him.  Another story happened on the next to the last day.  A young man named “Jesus” was on his way home when Mike Buss stopped him and started to share the gospel.   This young man who was only 24-years-old had terminal cancer, just finished his last day of work and was on his way home to kill himself.  God touched his heart and he prayed to receive Christ.  Hope…each person we met on the streets of San Jose needed hope and by taking Christ and planting a church, we are taking hope to the hopeless. 

In the end we had 565 pray to receive Christ.  Each one was called and invited to a reception where they could meet Pastor Rodolfo.  We had 28 in attendance and 11 made a commitment to start studying the Bible.  Please be in prayer for this small group of believers as they begin studying the truths of God word that they would be the future leaders of the new church and the light of Christ to San Jose. 

Finalmente nos llego el tiempo para nuestro primer viaje de MetroAmérica020 hacia San José, Costa Rica. Rodolfo, pastor y misionero jutno a su esposa Rocío, estaban ansiosos esperándonos para comenzar la campaña de evangelismo que daría inicio a VidaNueva San José.

El equipo salvadoreño dejó San Salvador el viernes 8 de enero por la mañana. En cuatro busetas, los más de 30 personas se embarcaron en una viaje de 2 días a través de Centroamérica, que incluía la mudanza de una familia, Edwin y Verónica, y el cruce de tres fronteras.

Recientemente, los cruces de fronteras han sido muy dificultosos y este viaje no fue la excepción. Cada frontera costó valioso tiempo mientras chequeaban cada pasaporte, equipaje y permisos. Esta era la primera experiencia en la frontera de Costa Rica y por mucho la más memorable. El segundo día de viaje se llegó a la frontera  de Costa Rica y después de 6 horas el equipo finalmente completo sus gestiones de permiso de ingreso y continuar hacia San José.

Luego de 5 horas de viajes dentro Costa Rica, una de nuestras busetas tuvo un accidente. Gracias a Dios NADIE resultó herido, aunque sí muy asustados y el vehículo seriamente dañado, fueron repartidos en las tres restantes y llegamos finalmente a San José cerca de las 2:00 de la madrugada. Mientras tanto, el equipo de 34 norteamericanos volaba hacia la ciudad.

Sabíamos que Satanás no quería que este viaje pasara y nos ocasionaba muchos obstáculos, pero llegamos al domingo por la mañana, cansados y débiles, y comenzó una semana sorprendente. Una iglesia necesitaba ser plantada y la esperanza llegó a San José.

Cada día fuimos a las colonias cerca de donde Rodolfo quería iniciar la iglesia, puerta por puerta, compartiendo el evangelio e invitando a las familias a venir al parque a ver una película. El siguiente obstáculo fue el frente frío que teníamos cada tarde, que ocasionaba bajas temperaturas y lluvia. Con este clima, no muchos querían dejar la comodidad de sus casas, así que optamos por hacer más evangelismo de casa por casa.

Fue tan bueno ver como DIos nos daba a cada uno momentos divinos para compartir el evangelio o animar a los recién convertidos a visitar la iglesia. Un día una joven señora, que estaba en una banca nos vio orar con otra señora y vino hacia nosotros llorando, pidiendo que orásemos por ella. Ella había estado fuera de su iglesia por tres años y Dios nos usó para llevarla de regreso hacia Él. Otra historia sucedió cerca del último día. Un joven de nombre “Jesús” iba camino a su casa cuando Mike Buss le detuvo y comenzó a compartirle el evangelio. Este hombre que solo tenía 24 años de edad tenía cáncer terminal, recién había terminado su último día de trabajo e iba regreso a casa a suicidarse. Dios tocó su corazón y oró para recibir a Cristo. Esperanza... cada persona que contactamos en las calles de San José necesitaba esperanza y por hablar de Cristo y comenzar una iglesia les estamos llevando esperanza a los desesperanzados. 

Al final tuvimos 565 profesiones de fe para recibir a Cristo. Cada uno fue llamado e invitado a la recepción donde podrían conocer al pastor Rodolfo. Tuvimos una asistencia de 28 y 11 hicieron compromiso de comenzar a estudiar la Biblia. Por favor ora por este pequeño grupo de creyentes al estar comenzando el estudio de las verdades en la Palabra de Dios, que ellos puedan ser los futuros líderes de la nueva iglesia y la luz de Cristo para San José.
