What a wonderful week we had in Guatemala City, Guatemala! Without a doubt God’s Kingdom was expanded and lives were transformed, both for those who received or shared the gospel. We would like to thank Pastors Phil Hopper, Shane Crawford, and Randy Williams and their outstanding teams from Abundant Life Baptist Church, Lee’s Summit, MO, Journey Christian Fellowship, Missoula, MT, and First Baptist Church Glen Saint Mary, FL, for their faithful love for God’s Word and the souls of men, their Revelation 12:11 quest for victory, their commitment to the sharing the gospel under all circumstances and all their hard work. We would also like to thank Stephanie German and her team from The Bridge EV Free in Fresno, CA, for their encouragement and participation in the documenting of the events of the week. The successes for God’s Kingdom during the week would not have been possible without everyone who participated. We would also like to thank the outstanding team from Vida Nueva San Salvador who accompanied us as school presentation leaders, translators, follow up teams, drivers, children’s workers, and those who handled all the equipment and logistics, as they gave one of their only vacation weeks for the year for the Lord’s service.
We are very grateful for the 1,254 people who made professions of faith in Christ during the week. The evangelistic emphasis of the week was divided into two types, outreach in the Central park and neighborhoods and outreach in schools. We had the opportunity to reach people for Christ in the Guatemala City neighborhoods of Pardos de Monte Maria, Colinas de Monte Maria, La Chacara, Centro America and Villa Nueva. In spite of a lot of rain we were able to visit door to door in most neighborhoods, show the Christian film, do the evangelistic drama, and share the gospel message. 376 of the professions of faith for the week were seen in the Central park and neighborhoods. It was amazing how the Lord would lead us to person after person desperately seeking hope; people whose families and lives were falling apart; sad people, hurting people, broken people. I would like to share with you “Charlie’s Story.” Charlie was a man Jim and Donna met in the park; he desperately needed Jesus. Charlie had recently made a suicide pact with his friend but when the moment came, he didn’t go through with it, but his friend did. Charlie had no job, no place to go, and no idea what to do with his life. Charlie needed Christ and responded with faith when he heard the gospel message. There is no doubt in our minds that much rejoicing occurred in heaven when he prayed to receive Christ. Each profession of faith in the neighborhoods was followed up the very next night. Many people confirmed their decisions for Christ, expressed a desire to grow, and accepted an invitation to attend a reception we prepared in their honor on Friday night, additional family members and friends were also reached for Christ. We were very excited to receive 25 adults of the 140 who had accepted the invitation, we are confident that more would have attended had it not been for the rain, heavy traffic and other obstacles that came up.
We also had the honor of visiting 4 Guatemala City private bilingual schools, Campo Alto, Campo Real, Campo Verde and Lehnsen Roosvelt. Once again we were able to share the gospel through the values program. We were prepared to give the presentation as many times as the school coordinator desired. Sometimes this is just once and to a select few classes. But to our surprise, every coordinator in every school wanted us to give the presentation to nearly every class in the school!! We will never forget Mrs. Pricilla’s face as she thanked us with tears in her eyes for the message of hope we had brought to her school and for how we had truly “fed” her students. We went to 27 classrooms in her school alone. What a huge opportunity that was!! Violence was our presentation topic. Physical, verbal, emotional and sexual violence are a tremendous concern to every citizen of Guatemala. We were able to take the story of Cain and Abel and teach the students how violence starts in the heart, if not stopped, proceeds to words and deeds, and finally totally destroys lives, everyone’s lives. The teams who visited the schools connected with the students immediately, the students wanted to be a part of the solution to stopping violence in their society. It was heartbreaking at times to hear the stories of students who have been victims of violence. 7 teams of 7 people each were able to visit a total of 74 classrooms in the 4 schools, reaching over 2,000 students with the message of “Stop the Violence” and a presentation of the gospel. When the invitation was given, 878 students indicated that they prayed to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior, the ultimate solution to stopping the violence in their homes, schools and society. Usually when we visit a classroom the teacher excuses him or herself and takes advantage of our presence by taking a break, this was not the case this time. Nearly every teacher stayed in the classroom, was attentive to the message, very grateful for our investment in their students, and many also prayed to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior with tears in their eyes. That response really touched our hearts. Every school was very grateful for our visit and all want us to come back again with another value presentation. What a tremendous open door the Lord has created for the gospel!
Please continue to pray for those who came to know Christ last week as well as those in whose hearts the seed was planted. Please pray for Nelson, Rosemarie and Vida Nueva Guatemala as they work with the new believers through discipleship so they may grow in their new relationships in Christ. Thank you again so very much for being a part of the expansion of God’s Kingdom and the transformation of lives in Guatemala. Qué semana más maravillosa tuvimos en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Sin ninguna duda el Reino de Dios fue expandido y vidas transformadas, ambas cosas para aquellos que recibieron o que compartieron el evangelio. Queremos agradecer a los pastores Phil Hoper, Shane Crawford, y Randy Williams y sus incomparables equipos de Abundant Life Baptist Church, de Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Journey Christian Fellowship de Missoula, Montana y de First Baptist Church GLen, en Sain Mary, Florida, por su amor fiel por la Palabra de Dios y las almas de los hombres, su búsqueda por la victoria del Apocalipsis 12:11, su compromiso para compartir el evangelio bajo cualquier circunstancia y por todo su duro trabajo. También queremos dar las gracias a Stephanie German y su equipo de The Bridge EV Free en Fresno, California, por su ánimo y participación para documentar los eventos de la semana. Los éxitos del Reino de Dios de esta semana no hubieran sido posibles sin ninguno de los que participaron. Vayan también las gracias para el asombroso equipo de VidaNueva San Salvador quienes nos acompañaron como líderes, traductores, equipo de seguimiento, conductores, obreros para niños, y todos los que cargaban el equipo y hacían la logística, ya que dieron una de sus semanas de vacación para el servicio del Señor.
Estamos muy agradecidos por las 1,254 personas que hicieron profesión de fe en Cristo durante la semana. El énfasis evangelístico de la semana fue dividido en 2 formas, evangelismo en el Parque Central y colonias, y evangelismo en escuelas. Tuvimos la gran oportunidad de alcanzar gente para Cristo en las colonias de la Ciudad de Guatemala: Pardos de Monte María, Colina de Monte María, La Chacara, Centro América y Villa Nueva. A pesar de la abundante lluvia pudimos visitar puerta por puerta la mayoría de las colonias, exhibir una película cristiana, un drama evangelístico y compartir el mensaje del evangelio. 376 de las profesiones de fe de la semana las vimos en el Parque Central y en las colonias. Fue maravilloso la manera en que el Señor nos guió de persona a persona que desesperadamente buscaban esperanza; gente cuyas vidas y familias estabas destruídas, personas tristes, heridos y dañados. Me gustaría compartirte la Historia de Charlie, Charlie era un hombre que Jim y Donna conocieron en el parque, necesitaba desesperadamente a Jesús. Charlie había hecho recientemente un pacto de suicidio con su amigo pero al llegar el momento ya no quería cometerlo, pero su amigo lo hizo. Charlie no tenía trabajo, ningún lugar a donde ir, y ninguna idea de qué hacer con su vida. Charlie necesitaba a Cristo y respondió con fe cuando escuchó el mensaje del evangelio. No hay duda en nuestras mentes que hubo mucha fiesta en los cielos cuando él oró para recibir a Cristo. Cada persona que hizo profesión de fe en las colonias fue visitada la noche siguiente. Muchas personas confirmaron su decisión por Cristo, expresando su deseo de crecer, y aceptaron la invitación para ir a la recepción que preparamos en su honor la noche del viernes, adicional a ello amigos y familiares fueron alcanzados para Cristo. Estabamos tan emocionados de recibir a 25 adultos de los 140 que recibieron la invitación, estamos seguros que más hubieran podido llegar sino hubiera sido por la lluvia, el pesado tráfico y otros obstáculos que se les presentaron.
También tuvimos el honor de visitar 4 escuelas bilingües de la Ciudad de Guatemala, Campo Alto, Campo Real, Campo Verde y Lehnsen Roosvelt. Una vez más pudimos compartir el evangelio por medio de los valores . Estuvimos listos para hacer la presentación tantas veces como el coordinador de la escuela lo solicitó. A veces solo una y clases seleccionadas. Pero para nuestra sorpresa, cada coordinador de todas las escuelas querían que hiciéramos la presentación en casi todas las clases!!! Jamás olvidaremos el rostro de la Sra. Priscilla al agradecernos con lágrimas en sus ojos por le mensaje de esperanza que llevamos a su escuela y como realmente “alimentamos” a sus estudiantes. Fuimos a 27 salones de clases en su escuela. Qué gran oportunidad fue esa! El tema de la presentación fue la Violencia. Usamos la historia de Caín y Abel para enseñar a los estudiante donde comienza la violencia en el corazón, y no se detiene, va de la palabra a las acciones., y finalmente destruye vidas, las vidas de todos. Los equipos que visitaron las escuelas conectaron inmediatamente con los estudiantes, quienes querían ser parte de la solución para detener la violencia en su sociedad. Era descorazonante escuchar algunas historias de los estudiantes que habían sido víctimas de algún acto violento. 7 equipos de 7 personas cada uno pudieron visitar 74 salones de clases en 4 escuelas, alcanzado a más de 2000 estudiantes con el mensaje de “Alto a la violencia” y una presentación del evangelio. Cuando la invitación fue hecha, 878 estudiantes indicaron que habían orado para recibir a Cristo como su Señor y Salvador, la única solución para detener la violencia en sus casas, escuelas y sociedad. En ocasiones anteriores cuando visitábamos un salón los maestros se excusaban y aprovechaban para tomar un receso aprovechando nuestra presencia, esto no sucedió esta ocasión. Casi todos los maestros estuvieron en los salones, muy atentos al mensaje, muy agradecidos por nuestra inversión en sus estudiantes, y algunos también oraron pra recibir a Cristo con lágrimas en sus ojos. Esa reacción tocó nuestros corazones. Cada escuela estaba agradecida por nuestra visita y todos quieren que regresemos con otra presentación de valores. Qué tremenda puerta abierta el Señor dio para el evangelio.
Por favor continúen orando por aquellos que recibieron a Cristo esa semana, así como por aquellos donde la semilla fue plantada. Por favor oren por Nelson, Rosemarie y Vida Nueva Guatemala para que puedan trabajar con los nuevos creyentes en el discipulado, así podrán crecer en su relación con Cristo. Gracias otra vez por ser parte de la expansión del reino de Dios y la transformación de vidas en Guatemala. Esperamos verles nuevamente pronto en otro viaje misionero de Good News In Action. Que Dios les bendiga abundamente!
