What a pleasure it is to greet you again as this New Year begins.
MENTAL FATIGUE
Our start up this year has been a bit slow. At the close of 2009 I was diagnosed with “Severe Mental Fatigue”. The doctors are very sure that it was caused by the intensity and frequency of our work in Guatemala defined by long hours and very little sleep. I was obligated by the doctors to significantly reduce my work load during the month of January and part of February. This has not been easy, I like to work hard. In the midst of this physical health challenge the Lord clearly has shown me that the advancement of His ministry, His kingdom, His church, and His plans do not depend on me or how much I am able to work for Him, the truth is that His Work will continue even when our ministries no longer do. All the glory belongs to Him.
MORE BAPTISMS, WHAT A BLESSING!!!
Many wonderful things have happened since the start of this year. One of those was the baptisms of 5 new adults. And what better day than February 14th??
Husband and wife Jorge Luis and Any Garcia were saved in August 2009 through our ministry. Jorge Luis was reached with the gospel during the August week of outdoor evangelism; a few days later he visited our church with his wife who, on that day, received Christ. Rosemarie and I now have the pleasure of studying the Bible with them every Thursday evening.

FATIGA MENTAL
Nuestro inicio de año ha sido muy, pero muy, lento. A finales de año recién pasado, fui diagnosticado con una “Fatiga Mental Severa.” Los doctores están seguros que se debe a la intensidad y frecuencias de los desvelos al estar trabajando aquí en Guatemala. Tal diagnóstico hizo que los médicos me obligaran a reducir mi trabajo a casi cero durante el mes de Enero y parte de Febrero. No ha sido fácil, pues me cuesta estar sin hacer mucho. En medio de tal desventaja en mi salud, Dios, claramente me dejó ver que el avance de Su ministerio, Su reino, Su iglesia, y Sus planes, no dependen de cuanto, ni de cuan intenso nuestro aporte sea...la verdad es que Su obra continuará, aún cuando alguno de Sus ministros no estén. Todos los aplausos son para El.
MÁS BAUTISMOS... ¡QUE BENDICION!
Han ocurrido cosas muy buenas durante este inicio de año, a pesar de todo. Una de ellas ha sido el bautismo de 5 adultos más. ¿Qué mejor día que el 14 de Febrero?
Los esposos Jorge Luis y Any García, se convirtieron en Agosto del año pasado con nosotros. Jorge Luis fue contactado durante una semana de evangelismo al aire libre durante ese mes, y unos días después, visitó la iglesia junto con su esposa quien recibió al Señor en esa misma ocasión. Actualmente, Rosemarie y yo tenemos el agrado de mentorearles cada noche de jueves.
Jorge Luis y Any, emocionados de haber conocido al Señor, fueron a traer a la hermana de Any, Amalia González, quien a su vez invitó a sus hijas, Wendy e Isabel Hidalgo. Wendy e Isabel trabajan y estudian en una universidad de la capital. Las tres hicieron profesión de fe en la iglesia. Actualmente, Amalia estudia la Biblia sistemáticamente con mi esposa los jueves por la mañana. Wendy e Isabel lo hacen con Carmen Irene Orozco, quien viaja desde San Salvador cada quince días precisamente para eso. Tan pronto como lo entendieron en sus respectivas reuniones de discipulado, Wendy y su mamá, tomaron la decisión de hacer pública su fe por medio del bautismo. Que agradable es para mi dar una noticia como esta.
María Isabel Herrera, es otra joven estudiante quien fue contactada en el Parque Central de la capital durante el mes de Noviembre del año pasado. Randy Adams (de First Bible Baptist Church en Missouri), y Koky López (de Iglesia Vida Nueva, San Salvador), hicieron el fenomenal trabajo de buscarle diligentemente y estudiar la Biblia con ella cada día durante una semana. Ahora, María Isabel es cuidada e instruida en la Palabra por Patsy Aragón. María Isabel, también se bautizó el pasado 14 de Febrero. De nuevo, es agradable ver el fruto de aquellos que se sacrifican por el crecimiento espiritual de otros.
Jorge Luis and Any, very excited about their new relationship with Christ brought Any’s sister, Amalia Gonzalez, to church, who in turn, invited her daughters, Wendy and Isabel Hidalgo. Wendy and Isabel work and study in a university in the capital city. All three have come to know Christ at church. Amalia is currently studying the Bible systematically with Rosemarie on Thursday mornings. Wendy and Isabel are studying the Bible with Carmen Irene, who travels from San Salvador every other weekend precisely for this. As soon as Amalia and Wendy understood the importance of baptism in their respective Discipleship lessons they decided to make their professions of faith public through baptism. What a joy it is to be able to share this good news with you.
WOMEN’S MINISTRIES, GROWING LITTLE BY LITTLE
On Tuesday February 23rd Rosemarie’s Women’s Quilting group held their first evangelistic breakfast of the year. I love everything they do and how they do it. In a very interesting and spontaneous way they share fellowship and use the group as a tool to win others for Christ. On this particular occasion, the breakfast, the decorations, and the teaching were oriented towards friendship; the appropriate theme for the month of February. The ambient was phenomenal, the ice breaking activities were so much fun, the breakfast could not have been better, and the best part of all is that 15 invited ladies attended, ladies who came for the very first time to the group. The gospel was clearly presented. Some of the ladies liked it so much that they said they would come back again soon and that they would also visit the church. I am really quite pleased with all that is going on in Women’s Ministries.
PRAYER REQUESTS
Please continue to lift us up in prayer. Our priority prayer request at this time is my soon and full recuperation, the goal being the continued privilege of serving our Lord in this beloved city.
On Sunday February 28th we will have a church wide family retreat in Chimaltenango. Right now we have 100 people signed up. Please pray that the Lord will use this retreat in the lives of our church members to help them to develop strong ties of solid friendships with each other.

MINISTERIO DE MUJERES.... ALGO QUE HA IDO CRECIENDO POCO A POCO
El recién pasado Martes 23 de febrero, el grupo de mujeres que hacen “quilting” cada martes por la mañana, tuvieron su primer desayuno evangelístico del año. Me encanta lo que hacen y cómo lo hacen. De una forma amena y espontánea, ellas han venido teniendo compañerismo entre sí y se han trazado la meta de hacer de este grupo una herramienta para ganar a otras para Cristo.
En esta ocasión, el desayuno, los arreglos y la charla, giró en torno a la amistad y el cariño, el mes lo demandaba. El ambiente estuvo fenomenal...las actividades para “romper el hielo” estuvieron muy divertidas...el desayuno inmejorable y, lo mejor de todo, tuvieron 15 invitadas... mujeres que por primera vez venían al grupo. Por supuesto que el evangelio fue expuesto claramente. A algunas les gustó tanto, que dejaron ver su deseo de seguir llegando al grupo y de visitar la iglesia pronto. Realmente estoy muy satisfecho con lo que allí está ocurriendo.
PETICIONES DE ORACIÓN
Les suplicamos sigan sosteniéndonos en oración. Nuestra principal petición de oración en esta ocasión es mi pronta recuperación, a fin de continuar teniendo el privilegio de servir a nuestro Rey en esta amada ciudad.
El día domingo 28 de febrero, tendremos un retiro familiar en Chimaltenango con toda la iglesia. Hasta este día, van 100 personas anotadas, ayúdennos a orar por que Dios use mucho este retiro para que los miembros de la iglesia comiencen a desarrollar lazos de amistad sólidos entre ellos.
Dios bendiga a El Salvador, a Nicaragua, a Costa Rica, y a Guatemala.

Maria Isabel Herrera is another young student who received the gospel in the Central Park in November of last year. Randy Adams, from First Bible Baptist Church in Missouri, and Koky Lopez did a phenomenal job of diligently seeking her out and studying the Bible with her every day for one week. Now Maria Isabel is being cared for and instructed in the Bible by Patsy Aragon. Maria Isabel also was baptized on February 14th. What a joy it is to see the fruit of our efforts for God’s Kingdom and how the sacrifice one makes for the spiritual growth of another is worth more than gold.
